Mindfulness session for the holiday season (Video)
The holiday season should be considered the most wonderful time of the year, however, not everyone approaches the holidays in a positive way. Some people see it as the most stressful time of the year for different reasons: more to-dos, a lot of buying, family gatherings with cooking and decorating, and more.
Not only that: some people even spread themselves very thin by helping others, getting into that loving holiday spirit, but they end up saying “yes” to everyone, and they’re left with no time for themselves. You probably relate to this as well!
Mindfulness can be a great solution to slow down and refocus. Being more aware of what’s going on around you and who’s around you make you appreciate more how you’re spending your time with friends and family. You can get things done while keeping your sanity, and it helps you recognize when you’re spreading yourself too thin and you can say “no” to unnecessary things.
In the video above, our coach expert Sabrina Cadini shared an easy mindfulness process that you can practice whenever you feel rushed, or stressed, and you feel that you need a break from the holiday madness and reconnect with yourself.
If you are ready to take a few minutes off from your busy day, watch the video and just follow Sabrina’s prompts, otherwise feel free to watch this recording whenever you are available.
Step 1 - Breathe
Start with some conscious breathing which is the foundation of every mindfulness practice. Breathing consciously creates a deeper connection between your body and mind: the brain recognizes there’s no immediate danger around you because you have time to pay attention to your breathing and it sends a signal to your body to relax. Your entire systems take a break from “doing” and they allow you to enjoy some “being” time, time for yourself.
Step 2 - Check in with yourself
Take time to process your emotions, good or bad. Are you happy? Do you feel upset for something that just happened? Are you excited about seeing old friends? How do you feel about it? Do you feel tired after those long nights staying up trying to finish your projects at work? Do you feel exhausted for entertaining family at the same time? How can you address these feelings and emotions and honor your needs, your time, in a better way?
Don’t judge yourself for how you feel, just pay attention to what you’re feeling.
