How to maintain momentum with your goals (Video)

In the video above, our coach expert Sabrina Cadini shared some tips on how to maintain momentum and stay on track with your goals. Working on your goals can be difficult or overwhelming on top of everything else that you have to take care of every day from your work to your family, maybe school, and who knows what else might happen. People also give up on their goals for many reasons: they don’t have a system to work on them, they’re not motivated enough, or those goals are simply not aligned with their vision and priorities, maybe they’re goals that their spouses or friends suggested because they could be good for them. No wonder that working on your goals for an entire year can seem impossible.

One of the tips that Sabrina shared:

Write down your goals

Put them on paper and review them periodically to make sure you’re on the right track.

Just to give you an idea with some numbers, a survey conducted by Harvard Business study on goal setting revealed that:

  • 83% of participants had no goals.

  • 14% had plans but had not written down their goals. The study found that this group was ten times more likely to succeed than those without any goals, so that was a good start.

  • 3% of the participants had written down their goals. They were three times more likely to succeed than the group who had some plan in mind.

So, having a written plan gives you more advantage for different reasons:

  1. You will have better recall for information that you create yourself rather than for something that you simply read;

  2. You can quickly see how specific your goals are and define them even better if necessary;

  3. You are reinforcing the importance of those goals unconsciously: your brain will realize that it needs to pay more attention and it will be more willing to cooperate;

  4. It makes it easier to review your goals every week, month, or quarter, and measure the progress when they’re written down. This is a key step that gives you the opportunity to reevaluate them and change the course if you don’t feel that those goals make sense for you anymore. You don’t want to waste time on goals that are not aligned with your purpose or bring you happiness. That’s why you will lose momentum!
